Over the past 20 years, Jon Bonné has become one of the most influential and widely-read American voices on wine and food.
He is currently the Managing Editor of RESY, coordinating its editorial coverage, with staff, editors, and contributors in more than 20 cities worldwide. That comes after several years as Senior Contributing Editor for PUNCH, where he wrote a regular column. His work in wine and food journalism has won numerous accolades, including three Roederer Awards — the most ever won by an American — an IACP Award, and recognition by the James Beard Foundation nearly a dozen times.
For nearly a decade, he was the Wine Editor and Chief Wine Critic of The San Francisco Chronicle. During that time, he ran the only standalone wine section in an American newspaper, and co-edited the paper’s combined Food & Wine section.
Through of his coverage of wines from around the world, and his selection of the Chronicle’s annual Top 100 Wines, Bonné developed a national and international readership, and built a global reputation for his authority and integrity as a critic and journalist.
Bonné is the author of The New California Wine (Ten Speed Press), which was honored as the Roederer International Wine Book of the Year, and The New Wine Rules, which has sold more than 50,000 copies and is currently also published in several international editions. His latest book, The New French Wine, was released in March 2023.
He also spent several years as the wine expert for JetBlue Airways, curating the selections for their on-board Mint experience. Travel + Leisure lauded it as “the best overall wine selection” among U.S. airlines. It was honored by Business Traveler’s Cellars in the Sky awards as one of the best business-class selections in the world.
Previously Bonné was the Lifestyle Editor at MSNBC, responsible for food, wine and culture coverage; he also worked there as a producer and correspondent, covering everything from politics to the airline industry. Additionally, he has served as the U.S. columnist for Britain’s Decanter magazine and the wine columnist for Seattle Magazine, and has written about wine and food for such top publications as Saveur, Food & Wine, The Washington Post, The Art of Eating and Noble Rot. For several years he served as the U.S. Chairman of the Decanter World Wine Awards.
His overall journalism career spans three decades, including pioneering work in digital journalism for such organizations as NBC News, Court TV and News Corporation.
